CITY OF RENSSELAER
Mayor Herbert H. Arihood
Being selected as one of Indiana’s top five small cities illustrates
just one of the many assets that Rensselaer, Indiana has to offer. The
quality of our lives that exists in our one hundred seventy year old
community is the best reason for our existence.
Rensselaer is the county seat of Jasper County, in northwest Indiana.
Our location is halfway between Chicago and Indianapolis and is served
by Interstate 65. Our community began as a small farming hub and has
grown to be a self sufficient growing city, large enough to survive
the demands of the new millennium, but concise enough to provide an
admirable and conservative living quality.
We are dedicated to maintaining our beautiful city park system, and
are blessed with a progressive school system with a full compliment
of amenities. We encourage industrial and commercial development by
practicing our concept of controlled growth. We have two separate industrial
parks which provide a consistent commercial base, two shopping mall
locations, and a new five-screen theater. Our Jasper County Hospital
serves citizens in a forty mile area, Saint Joseph’s College,
located on our city’s south side, has excellent credentials, is
rated very highly in the ranks of learning institutions, and provides
an affirmative base of stability for our community.
Our Chamber of Commerce contributes a valuable asset within our business
and commercial environment. As the chamber illustrates, the community
constantly strives for positive improvements by working together with
a smile.
